Fintona Girls' School was founded in February 1896 by Miss Annie Hughston, originally at a house in Mayston Street, Camberwell. It moved to its present Balwyn Road, Balwyn site in 1936; the name 'Fintona' derives from a village in Northern Ireland associated with the founder's family.
